The Canon CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens provides 4K performance for Super35mm large-format single-sensor cameras and accommodates either broadcast or cinema-style production due to its removable Digital Drive unit. Available in EF- or PL- mount versions, the lens delivering the world's longest focal length (75-1500mm with its built-in 1.5x extender) and highest (20x) magnification among super 35mm zoom lenses as of October 16, 2014. The lens is great for sports, nature documentaries, and other types of long-zoom field production, yet it's easy to carry, has a relatively compact form factor of only 15.9 inches in length, and a weight of just 14.6 lbs. It can be used with major brands of single-sensor Super35mm cameras and conforms to industry-standard camera-to-lens communication protocols including 12-pin serial communication (common to major broadcast camera brands) and Cooke's /i Technology.

The CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens allows for the close-up 4K imaging of wildlife subjects while still maintaining the physical distances necessary in such shooting situations. Ruggedly built, its removable Digital Drive unit allows for broadcast-style operation with a convenient zoom/rocker switch, programmable zoom and focus settings, and data connections for use with broadcast-type field/studio zoom and focus servo-demand controls. Removal of the Drive unit enables Cinema-style operation; the lens includes clearly engraved barrel markings, an 11-blade iris to help achieve smooth "bokeh" backgrounds, and compatibility with lens-support rods, matte boxes, and other cinema accessories.

Ultra Telephoto 50-1000mm (75-1500mm with Built-In 1.5x Extender)

The CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens delivers the long focal length performance demanded by today's users of single-sensor large-format cameras for broadcast sports, nature cinematography, and digital filmmaking. With the world's longest focal length (75-1500mm with its built-in 1.5x extender) and highest (20x) magnification among super 35mm zoom lenses as of August 31, 2014, the CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens offers new creative opportunities possibilities for today's growing community of 4K, UHD, and HD image makers.

Amazingly High Zoom Ratio of 20x

With a 20:1 zoom range that extends from a wide 50mm up to 1000mm, the CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens is the longest Super 35mm telephoto lens in the industry to date. The increased use of single-sensor large-format (super 35mm) cameras for such broadcast applications as sports may require an even longer focal range, so this lens also features a built-in 1.5x extender, lengthening its focal length to 75-1500mm. New creative opportunities include enabling single-sensor large-format camera users to obtain close-up 4K imaging of wildlife subjects or sports players while still maintaining the physical distances necessary in such shooting situations.

4K Optical Performance Throughout the 20x Zoom Range or Even When the 1.5x Extender is Used

The CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens is the product of years of Canon expertise in such areas as large-diameter aspherical lens technology, optical layout optimization, and the latest optical simulation technologies. Developed using Canon?s leading-edge optical and optomechanical design tools and advanced glass materials, the CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens corrects nearly all optical aberrations, and delivers high image quality that extends from the image center to all edges. The result is the maintenance of superb 4K optical imaging performance throughout its 20x zoom range, and even when the lens? built-in 1.5x extender is employed.

Designed for Super35mm Large-Format Single-Sensor Cameras (Dia. 31.4mm)

The CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens perfectly covers a 31.4mm image format and delivers this amazing 4K optical performance across its entire zooming range, which ranges from 75mm to 1500mm with its built-in 1.5x extender. The minimum object distance (MOD) of the lens is 11.5 ft. (3.5 m); the lens front diameter is 136mm.

Designed for Both Cinema Style and Broadcast Applications

The CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens features a removable Digital Drive unit to accommodate either broadcast or cinema-style production. The Drive unit integrates a convenient zoom/rocker switch, programmable zoom and focus settings, and a 12-pin connector that carries standard broadcast lens serial communication. Compatible cameras can supply power to the Drive unit via this connection and support remote iris operation. Three 20-pin connectors on the Drive unit enable the zoom, focus and iris to be remotely controlled by using broadcast type servo-demand controls. The 20-pin connectors also output 16-bit precision data that enables the lens to be used with virtual studio systems. Removal of the Drive unit enables traditional full manual cinema-style operation, and the lens also features clearly engraved barrel markings, an 11-blade iris to help achieve smooth ?bokeh,? and gearing that is fully compatible with lens-support rods, matte boxes, and other cinema accessories.

The manual focus control of the lens has a total rotation angle of 180 degrees. If the Drive unit is removed for a specific production and then re-mounted, it can be done in any rotation position and there is no need to adjust gear positions (zoom, iris, and focus).

Although it's an extremely high-performance lens, the CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens weighs only 14.6 lbs. (6.6kgm) and has an overall length of only 15.9 inches (405.2mm) ? a carryable combination that can readily support portable documentary and sports shooting.

11-Blade Iris for Natural Out of Focus Background

The odd number of iris blades within the CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto zoom lens provides a softer image by suppressing reflection of opposing beams of light. This 11-bladed iris is designed to enable cinematographers to achieve smooth "bokeh" effects that exploit the beauty of the shallow depth of field that can be captured with today’s large-format (super 35mm) single-sensor cameras.
