Introducing Apple Watch Series 4. Fundamentally redesigned and re-engineered to help you stay even more active, healthy, and connected.
The largest Apple Watch display yet. New electrical heart sensor. Re-engineered Digital Crown with haptic feedback. Entirely familiar, yet completely new, Apple Watch Series 4 resets the standard for what a watch can be.
Series 4 represents a fundamental redesign and re‑engineering of Apple Watch. From the curved corners of the larger, all‑new display to the architecture of the S4 chip, every detail has been thoughtfully considered. Apple Watch has always been a uniquely personal product. And now it’s even more powerful.
The display is the defining feature of Apple Watch, and Series 4 pushes it further than ever. The challenge was to make it bigger without noticeably increasing the size of the case or compromising the battery life. Narrower borders enable a viewing area that’s over 30% larger, while a new display technology called LTPO improves power efficiency, helping you get through the day on a single charge.
Curved corners precisely match the radius of the case, creating a more pleasing, continuous appearance. This also allows imagery and the touch surface to extend to the farthest reaches of the screen.
To take full advantage of the new dimensions of the display, the entire interface has been redesigned to provide more information with richer detail. The new Infograph watch face can accommodate up to eight complications, so you can see more and do more at a glance.
The Digital Crown was invented to provide an easy way to navigate on Apple Watch without obstructing the display. With Apple Watch Series 4, the mechanism has been totally re‑engineered. Haptic feedback now delivers a precise, click-like feel as you scroll. And a titanium electrode built into the top allows you to use the ECG app simply by touching it with your finger.
Already one of the most intricate systems Apple has created, the Digital Crown on Apple Watch Series 4 adds even more capability into significantly less space. The entire assembly is 30 percent smaller, yet it includes 21 percent more components.
The optical heart sensor has been part of Apple Watch from the beginning, allowing you to quickly check your heart rate. Thanks to a new electrical heart sensor (made up of an electrode in the Digital Crown and electrodes on the back crystal), you can use the ECG app to generate an ECG, or electrocardiogram, at any time to share with your doctor.
Optimized in every way, the new Apple Watch is more powerful, yet even thinner than before. And it delivers up to 18 hours of battery life on a single charge.
The S4 is more than just a processor. It’s a complete System in Package (SiP), with the entire system fabricated onto a single component. This architecture allows Apple Watch to pack amazing capabilities into a tiny space. In fact, Apple Watch is the only product in the world that runs completely on a SiP.
This fourth-generation CPU is faster than ever. Apps open more quickly and performance is boosted across the entire system.
Larger and even more powerful, the Apple Watch Series 4 speaker provides dramatically bigger sound for Siri and Walkie‑Talkie. In addition, the microphone has been relocated to the opposite side to reduce echoes for clearer phone calls.
ECG on your wrist. Low and high heart rate notifications. Fall detection and Emergency SOS. New Breathe watch faces. It’s designed to improve your health every day and powerful enough to help protect it. ECG app coming later this year.
Apple Watch Series 4 inspires you to live a healthier life by helping you manage everything from everyday stress to calories burned. At the same time, it monitors your heart rate and lets you know if it detects something of concern. And that sense of security now goes a step further with fall detection and Emergency SOS. The new Apple Watch has your back — as well as your heart.
Apple Watch Series 4 is capable of generating an ECG similar to a single-lead electrocardiogram. It’s a momentous achievement for a wearable device that can provide critical data for doctors and peace of mind for you.
Electrodes built into the Digital Crown and the back crystal work together with the ECG app to read your heart’s electrical signals. Simply touch the Digital Crown to generate an ECG waveform in just 30 seconds. The ECG app can indicate whether your heart rhythm shows signs of atrial fibrillation — a serious form of irregular heart rhythm — or sinus rhythm, which means your heart is beating in a normal pattern.
The all-new Digital Crown contains a titanium electrode that reads the electrical heart impulses in your fingertip.
An ultrathin chromium silicon carbon nitride layer applied to the sapphire crystal reads the electrical heart impulses in your wrist.
Each beat of the heart sends out an electrical impulse. With the ECG app, Apple Watch Series 4 can read and record these impulses by connecting the circuit between your heart and both arms. The resulting ECG waveform, its classification, and any notes you’ve entered on related symptoms are automatically stored in the Health app on your iPhone. You can share them with your doctor and have a better-informed conversation about your health.
Unusually high or low heart rates and Irregular heart rhythms (known as arrhythmias) could be signs of a serious condition. But many people don’t recognize the symptoms, so the underlying causes often go undiagnosed. Apple Watch Series 4 checks your heart and alerts you to these irregularities — so you can take action and consult your doctor.
All your heart data, as well as information from your health and fitness apps, is collected in your iPhone Health app. Activity, sleep, mindfulness, and nutrition are highlighted there in one snapshot.
With the new accelerometer and gyroscope, Apple Watch Series 4 can detect that you’ve fallen. When an incident like this occurs, a hard fall alert is delivered, and you can easily initiate a call to emergency services or dismiss the alert. If you’re unresponsive after 60 seconds, the emergency call will be placed automatically and a message with your location will be sent to your emergency contacts.
Emergency SOS allows you to quickly get help. It calls 911, notifies your emergency contacts, sends your current location, and displays your Medical ID badge on the screen for emergency personnel. And Apple Watch Series 4 with cellular does it all even when you’re away from your phone.
Taking moments throughout the day to stop, relax, and practice mindfulness can help reduce stress and improve overall health. The Breathe app keeps you centered by taking you through a series of calming breaths. It’s now available as a watch face, so you can bring focus to your day just by raising your wrist.
The right apps can play an important role in reminding you to keep up with healthy routines. Whether you want to drink more water, improve your sleep, or better manage a condition like diabetes, there’s an app designed to help you prioritize your goal.
Track your menstrual cycle to keep all aspects of your health and fitness in check and support better habits.

Whether it’s training for a marathon or swimming laps at the pool, Apple Watch Series 4 has something for everyone. Now including yoga and hiking, the Workout app works every way you want to exercise. You can set individual goals, measure your calorie burn, and track your progress over time in the Activity app on your iPhone. Ready? Go.
With a gentle tap, new pace alerts let you know whether you’re ahead of or behind where you want to be. The new cadence metric lets you see your steps per minute. And rolling miles allows you to see your split for the preceding mile at any time.
With just a tap, you can pair your watch with compatible gym equipment. So you can keep important metrics like heart rate, speed, and calories in sync between your watch and the treadmill, stair climber, or stationary bike you’re on.
For most popular workouts, Apple Watch senses when you’re moving and alerts you to start the Workout app. It even gives you credit for the exercise you’ve already started. It will also remind you to end your workout, in case you get distracted when you’re cooling down.
Apple Watch Series 4 is water resistant to 50 meters and tracks both pool and open-water workouts. Turn the Digital Crown to eject water from the speaker using a burst of sound.
With room for eight complications, the new Infograph watch face can reflect whatever you’re into, in richer detail than ever. Create your own custom workout face by adding complications like Music, Heart Rate, or whatever else gets your pulse going.

Understanding all the ways you move throughout the day is an essential part of living a healthy life. Apple Watch shows your daily movement as three simple metrics: Move, Exercise, and Stand. Together they make up the Activity rings that track your progress all day long. The goal is to close your rings each day.
Apple Watch lets you share your activity progress from the trail, the track, or even the surf lineup. And now, new Activity competitions let you invite a friend to a seven-day contest where you earn points based on the percentage of your daily Activity rings you close.
During a competition, notifications will tell you if you’re ahead of or falling behind your competitor, along with the score. So you’ll know exactly how much you need to move to take home bragging rights. And like a personal trainer, Apple Watch will give you a nudge to close your rings at the end of each day, as well as offer up a new challenge each month.
Now you can pick up a trophy when you seize a victory. You’ll find your competition award in the new Awards tab inside the Activity app on your iPhone.
Move. Exercise. Stand. They’re the three Activity rings on Apple Watch, and an essential part of understanding and measuring all the ways you move throughout the day.
The Move ring tracks the active calories you burn. Active calories are the ones you burn through all kinds of movement, from taking the stairs at work to playing with the kids.
The Exercise ring shows you how many minutes of brisk activity you’ve done, whether you’re working out or just moving at a fast pace.
Sitting too much can contribute to health problems over time. So Apple Watch keeps you motivated to get up throughout the day.
